Californian Couple Keep Car Thieves At Bay With Motion Sensitive Sprinkler

Californian Couple Keep Car Thieves At Bay With Motion Sensitive Sprinkler

It's a stroke of absolute genius

A couple from Southern California who had become frustrated with thieves roaming about their neighbourhood devised the best solution to a problem that you're likely to hear today.

While most of us are satisfied with buying a security light that comes on when anyone comes by, this couple decided to get a motion sensitive sprinkler to give any would-be criminals a surprise soaking.

As you can see, there's a video of the device in action, too. Luckily, they've got a doorbell that has a camera on it for just these sort of situations.

Technology, eh? It's great, isn't it?

Katie Camarena and her husband, Josh, who live together in Porterville, came up with the idea after getting fed up of hearing about light-fingered folks wandering around her neighbourhood looking to get their hands on things such as tools, or anything of value left in a car.

In a post on Facebook, she explained: "We have been having issues with people coming into our neighborhood to try and steal tools out of vehicles (And anything else they can get their hands on).

"Our flood light didn't seem to scare them off, so we decided to have a little fun with a motion activated sprinkler that has an impressive amount of pressure."

One cursory glance at the video will tell you that she's not messing about on that claim. In the video a kid scoots up to her pick-up truck on a bicycle, but as they approach the truck - which is on a driveway, so they must have been up to something - the sprinkler goes off.

It's mounted on the back of the truck, and - on this evidence - it is a pretty useful deterrent. The kid didn't want anything to do with it and got the hell outta there, sharpish.

Oh, and Katie then also shared the link to where you can buy a sprinkler like this all for yourself. Great news if you're having trouble with thieves, or even next door's cat using your garden as a litter box.

Needless to say, everyone is massively impressed by this feat of ingenuity and lateral thinking.

Since the video was posted, it has been liked 14,000 times and has been shared a gigantic 85,000 times.

Of the nearly 13,000 people who have offered their comments on the video, one person wrote: "That's the most awesome set up I've seen good job."

Another Facebook user commented: "That's sooo hilarious!!! LOL! Everyone should do this...."

Yep, it's a novel way of keeping unwanted visitors from your stuff.
