When it comes to testing the strength of your relationship, you might try quizzing your partner on how much they know about you, or perhaps even see how you fare in a period of separation. One couple, however, decided to chain themselves together for three months:

Alexander and Viktoria chose Valentine's Day as the obvious time to attach themselves to each other, in a bid to give their relationship the ultimate test.

Vitaly Zorin, of Ukraine's national register of records, who supervised the experiment said: "The palms of the couple in love are just a couple of centimetres apart."

Zorin also had to verify the pair's mental health before starting their close encounter challenge, before they were chained together near the Unity sculpture in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Alexander said: "We are going for a record. There is a chain on us, and all the links are welded. The final link... is closed with the seal of the national register of records."

The first test for the couple was a 325-mile drive home from the capital city in a taxi. That's a long time to spend with someone altogether, never mind chained to them as well.

During a taxi break, they had to choose whether to jointly use the male or female toilets at a roadside café. If you were wondering, they selected the women's loo, providing a shock to a cleaner, as they began their lives with no personal space whatsoever.

The couple have posted videos in which they wear specially developed clothing, with zips from top to bottom enabling them to dress and undress without Houdini-like contortions.

Videos show them taking it in turn to shower, and putting clothes in the washing machine. Alexander also manages to clean his boots.

Sleeping next to one another might be something they're used to, as well as things like cooking, eating and brushing their teeth. But imagine having to stand with your other half every time they need to go to the loo. That's got to be a romance killer, no?

The loved-up pair are confident that they can last the three months in such close proximity. Zorin explained that if they decide to separate during the three months, they will need specialists from the emergency services to cut them apart.

Let's see where this goes then. Good luck, I suppose.
