Man Makes Shocking Discovery On Videotape Labelled 'A Surprise'

Man Makes Shocking Discovery On Videotape Labelled 'A Surprise'

It's truly terrifying.

Now, everyone has surely seen enough horror films by now to know that you absolutely don't play videos that you buy in junk shops.

You just don't do it - there will be some sort of cursed video on it and it will get out of control and everyone you know and love will be dead within a matter of days. See The Ring if you don't believe me.

Or maybe not - perhaps there are fates worse than death.

If you come across a video that reads 'a surprise' on it, just don't play it. Leave it, walk away, save yourself.

This Sunday one man decided to completely ignore this advice. He bought the video, told his Twitter followers about it, then filmed himself watching it.

He tweeted: "I found a VHS tape at the junk store that just had the label "A surprise!"
I thought I'd check it out, since I have a VCR & TV hooked up after all.

"Just... Just watch"

That's just cruel - passing the curse onto his unsuspecting Twitter followers like that.

Well, what happened next was horrifying - there was no bedraggled girl climbing out of the TV, no horrible scenes of death and gore, it was worse than that.

The ultimate Rickroll.

Yes, the video simply contained Rick Astley's seminal piece of 1987 pop and piss-taking video for the ages 'Never Gonna Give You Up'.

As the video ends the man (quite rightly) removes the videotape from the VCR and puts it where it belongs - straight into the bottom of the bin, at speed.

Certain readers of this article are probably very, very confused right now. Who is Rick Astley? What's a Rickroll? What is a VCR?

VCRs are like Netflix, but old and shit. Rick Astley was a pop star, and the Rickroll is a meme that just never dies.

In this high-speed world of memes it can be difficult to keep up. What was funny 20 minutes ago is completely unacceptable now.

However, the staying power of the humble Rickroll is worthy of remark.

For the uninitiated, you click a link expecting to see something - an article, a video, whatever - but instead are transported to the video of 'Never Gonna Give You Up'.

Simple, but effective.

It appears to have first become a thing in about 2007 when a user of the controversial internet forum 4chan when someone posted the link claiming it was to the trailer for 'Grand Theft Auto IV'.

Rick has been everywhere since then. It refuses to go away.

Literally, he is never going to give up. Sort of like The Ring after all.
