Diver exposes concerning reality after sharing worrying GoPro footage from ocean floor

Viewers couldn't believe what objects he found under the sea

A diver has shared worrying footage he captured of the ocean floor, and many saw it as a wake-up call.

GoPros have been responsible for capturing many odd videos over the years, whether it be unsuspecting divers swimming into sea predators or discovering alleged undetonated sea mines.

The durable, multi-functional action cameras are renowned for capturing high-quality videos and producing ultra-clear snaps in various conditions.

They are designed to survive in the most extreme conditions, which is why we've managed to gather numerous perspectives on several unique experiences over the years.

It even includes the time when scientists attached GoPro cameras to polar bears - yes, that really happened.

However, sometimes GoPro footage can be quite sobering, revealing truths about the environment, as one diver showed on social media.

A Reddit user known as FriendlyGalwyn, a self-described 'underwater cleaner who loves turtles', posted footage of himself diving to the ocean floor to retrieve some rubbish.

It may not sound like much, but the content creator, who also posts on Instagram to his 127,000 followers, has a series where he cleans up the seas by retrieving and properly disposing of items that he finds on the ocean floor.

The wholesome practice came to light through his Reddit post, where he also wrote a long, emotional message, thanking GoPro for giving him the platform to share what he was seeing on the sea floor.

In this video in particular, he revealed that a whole plastic garden chair was half-sticking out of the ocean floor.

Going through his content, he's also stumbled upon saws, razors, knives, empty food tins, plates, sunglasses, and many other random items.

FriendlyGalwyn said in this message that he owes a 'huge thank you' to GoPro as after decades of cleaning the sea floor, he started recording his trips after getting his first action camera.

While he initially used it to take some snaps of sea turtles, he admitted: "About 3–4 years ago, my wife suggested I start recording the trash I was collecting and share those videos.

"I followed her advice… and my very first video reached 11 million views on Instagram. That moment changed everything."

He added that since then, 'both governmental and non-governmental organisations' have reached out to support his mission to clean the oceans, as he has continued his series.

The user said that he's 'at it everyday', concluding: "I’ll keep going for as long as I can. Because this matters."

Other users took to the comment section to share their gratitude for his work, as one said: "You’re the real MVP!"

Another commented: "Thank you for being selfless and proactive at cleaning the ocean. We need more people like you into the world."

A third simply added: "This is awesome of you to do for your community," with a different user writing: "I hope GoPro are sponsoring you now… Awesome work dude."

In response to the video and message of thanks to them, GoPro themselves ended up commenting on the post, saying: "Thank you for helping keep our oceans clean + capturing it all with our cameras.

"We'd love to hook you up with more equipment to keep your series going. Check your messages."
