A woman gets mistaken for Harry Potter star Emma Watson by her own mother due to her uncanny resemblance to the actor.

Kari Lewis, 31, started getting stopped in the street by strangers after the first Harry Potter film was released in 2001, when she was just 12.

Since then, the mum-of-one has been approached by various conventions asking her to dress up as Watson's character, Hermione Granger.

And it's not just people Lewis doesn't know who can't tell the difference, because even her own mum, Monica, sometimes struggles to tell which is which.

Lewis, from Zionsville, Indiana, said: "My mum says she can really see the resemblance; she sometimes sees a photo of Emma Watson and thinks it's me.

"When I worked at a restaurant, I would constantly get comments from customers who couldn't believe the resemblance.

"It's fun seeing their reaction; I understand why people think I look like her.

"It all started when the first film was released; I went out to the Post Office to post a letter for my mum and a couple of girls called me Hermione. I had never heard of the name so I went home and researched it and realised that I did look like her."

Lewis, who works as an instructional assistant, regularly dresses up as 30-year-old Watson at events across the UK, in turn earning an extra income. She also offers videos on Cameo.

She added: "I started getting really into the films and books and became a big fan of Harry Potter.

"A lot of convention organisers have found my pictures and hired me to play Hermione as a cosplayer; seeing people's reactions at this event are amazing because they are always so shocked."

Lewis shares photos of herself on Instagram, where she has more than 32,000 followers.

Her bio bills her as a cosplayer, blogger and 'Hufflepuff'.

And it's not just Watson in character as Hermione Granger that Lewis imitates - she's also dressed up as Belle from the 2017 Disney remake Beauty and the Beast.

Commenting on a snap, one person wrote: "MAAM.... I literally has to do a double take I thought this was a screenshot from the film."

A second added: "I actually thought that was Emma Watson."

Someone else said: "Your Belle cosplay is soo beautiful! Like all your cosplay! It's really awesome!"
