Mark Zuckerberg has been spotted out on the waves wearing an ankle bracelet that is said to keep sharks away.

The Facebook boss was snapped while out on his hydrofoil surfboard in Kauai, Hawaii, sporting a Sharkbanz bracelet.

The bracelets, which Zuckerberg had around his ankle, send out an electrical current that sharks don't like, meaning they'll keep away from whoever is wearing it. Fancy, eh?

He also has a striped pattern to the bottom of his board, which could be due to the theory that sharks go for solid colours - as it reminds them of food, apparently - and will avoid stripes.

Taking zero chances, isn't he?

But, of course, we already know that Zuckerberg is a man who puts his safety first - let's not forget he once slathered himself in an inordinate amount of suncream while out on the water.

The 37-year-old became an instant meme after the photos of him completely covered in sunscreen appeared online back in July last year.

Zuckerberg recently revealed that it wasn't just to keep himself sun safe, though, he also used it to try and avoid being snapped by some nearby paparazzi - but if going unnoticed was his aim, then I think it's fair to say it backfired spectacularly.

Speaking during an Instagram Live session earlier this year, he said: "I really should have thought that one through more.

"I noticed there was this paparazzi guy following us and, so I was like, 'Oh I don't want him to recognise me so you know what I'm going to do? I'm just gonna put a ton of sunscreen on my face'."

He then added: "I'm glad people can laugh about it. I laugh about it and I think it's pretty funny."

Zuckerberg has previously said he hadn't realised just how much he was actually wearing.

According to The Verge, he said: "I'm not a person who's under the illusion that I look particularly cool at any point with what I'm doing.

"But when you're eFoiling down the coast of Hawaii, and it's beautiful and it just feels like it's awesome - and then you come back online and you see that's the photo, that's what you look like - it's like, 'OK. Alright. That's maybe quite a bit more sunscreen than I thought I was wearing'."
