Jesy Nelson has left Little Mix, the band has said.

Sharing a statement to Instagram, Little Mix said: "After an amazing 9 years together Jesy has made the decision to leave Little Mix.

"This is an incredibly sad time for all of us but we are fully supportive of Jesy. We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and well-being.

"We are still very much enjoying our Little Mix journey and the 3 of us are not ready for it to be over. We know that Jesy leaving the group is going to be really upsetting news for our fans.

"We love you guys so much and are so grateful for your loyalty and continued support of all of us. We're looking forward to seeing so many of you on tour.

"Love always, Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne xxx"

Jesy, 29, has also shared her own statement in which she thanked her fans for their support.

Describing her career with the band as 'the most incredible time of my life' Jesy went on to open up about the impact being in Little Mix had on her mental health.

She wrote: "The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health.

"I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard."

She went on to say: "I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing things that make me happy."

Adding: "I want to say thank you to Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne for creating some of the most amazing memories I'll never forget."

Last month, the band released a statement to say Jesy would be having an 'extended time off from Little Mix for private medical reasons'.

It came after Jesy pulled out of the final of BBC series Little Mix: The Search, which saw the band seek out new talent to support them on their UK tour.

She was also unable to attend the 2020 Europe Music Awards, where the group were due to host and perform during the event.

Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock ended up doing the gig without her.

A rep for the band said at the time that Nelson would be absent for both engagements as she was 'unwell'.

A statement said: "Jesy is unwell and will not be appearing on tonight's final of Little Mix The Search.

"She will also not be hosting or performing at tomorrow's MTV EMAs."
