A former dancer was told that she may have to have her bum amputated because of the damage caused by illegal injections.

Courtney Barnes, from Miami, US, says she is desperate for her rear to 'go back to normal' but experts have said they just don't know what to do.

The 35-year-old, who is known professionally as Ms Miami, received her first set of injections when she was just 22 after being advised that she could earn more money if she had a bigger bum.

After her fourth round of polymer injections, she realised something wasn't quite right when she noticed her behind was leaking.

Now, more than a decade on, Courtney says she's sick of being treated like a 'circus freak' and wants to fix her oversized and discoloured posterior.

In a last ditch attempt to find a solution, she has appeared on reality TV show Botched, a series that tries to rectify plastic surgery errors.

One of the show's hosts, Dr Terry Dubrow, told her: "The masses are so superficially located that you absolutely cannot remove all of them unless you basically amputate.

"Amputate the whole booty."

Courtney says the woman who carried out her original procedures told her she had been injected with hydrogel - which Dr Dubrow warned can have disastrous consequences.

He said: "Hydrogel is a synthetic polymer, called polyacrylamide, which is a gel that, when injected into the body, attracts water and gets incorporated into the tissue.

"While this may sound simple enough, the incorporation can cause a significant immunologic reaction and other serious disasters."

After inspecting Courtney's body, the specialists concluded she had granulomas, which are large areas that can form when the body can't fight off a foreign substance.

Doctors have told Courtney she may face amputation, but the 34-year-old has rejected the possibility.

They also believe the odd discolouration was due to a 'post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation'.

After she rejected the possibility of amputation, Dr Dubrow said he would carry on looking for ways of treating Courtney.

Dr Gonzalo Mosqera, another surgeon, said that despite the difficult circumstance, Courtney is luckier than other women who suffer from much more serious conditions, as a result of their injections.

But Courtney is hopeful that she will, eventually, get the behind she wants, saying: "I am ready to look like the girl next door. I am tired of being of bullied on social media and people following me and stalking me just to get a picture.

"I may look like a circus freak because of my booty but I am still a human, I am a daughter, I am a woman, I am an entrepreneur and I am figuring out life just like everyone else - I just want people to see me for me."
