Brenda Fricker, who is best known for playing the Pigeon Lady in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, has revealed she will be spending Christmas alone.

The 75-year-old, who lives in Dublin, appeared on Ray D'Arcy's RTÉ Radio One show where she said: "I'm doing well, I'm hanging on like everyone else.

"I'm 75 now, and I would be lying if I said it would be a nice and happy Christmas because I'm old and I live alone. It can be very dark.

"I turn the phone off and put the blinds down. I do pre-record some good programmes and I have my dog and I get myself through it that way."

However, she went on to say that she had spent Christmas time alone before, so she wasn't dreading the whole thing.

She added: "While I don't find Christmas all that difficult, what I do find difficult is New Year's Eve."

Elsewhere in the interview, she said she was no longer in touch with her co-star Macaulay Culkin.

"No I don't [hear from Macaulay], I worry about him but I'm not in touch with him," she said.

"I remember when we were shooting that the trailers were always parked along there at Central park and his mom was in one of them and I went in to say hello to her and we ended up becoming quite friendly.

"She was telling me they didn't have even a washing machine until Macaulay was picked up for that film.

"They were so poor and they had 10 children or something. So she was struggling to handle the whole thing, god love her."

While Fricker may have been pally with both Culkin and his mother on set, it's since been revealed that Joe Pesci - who played Harry, one half of the Wet Bandits - didn't speak to the youngster in an attempt to build up a bit of genuine fear in the child star.

According to the Independent, Pesci, who wasn't used to starring alongside children, planned to ignore Culkin in a bid to evoke fear.

Pesci wanted to make a 10-year-old Culkin believe that he was mean and, according to reports, when the youngster asked him why he never smiled, Pesci is said to have responded simply: "Shut up."

According to NME, Pesci is also supposed to have said that 'he's pampered a lot by a lot of people, but not me, and I think he likes that'.

Fair enough.
