Trailer For New Jared Leto Spider-Man Spinoff Morbius Drops
Mysterious but eagerly-awaited superhero flick Morbius now has itself a brand new trailer! And here it is:
The movie is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, who originated as Spider-Man villain but went on to become an antihero in his own series.
The film features Jared Leto in the titular role alongside the likes of Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Jared Harris (Chernobyl) and Fast and Furious star Tyrese Gibson.
The official synopsis reads: "One of Marvel's most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius.
"Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease."
In the trailer, we're finally given Leto's debut as Dr Michael Morbius, and get to see the character's transformation from sickly child into the deadly vampire-like creature - the result of him messing around with bat DNA, of course. Perhaps not one to try at home.
Leto's Morbius says in a clip: "I have a rare blood disease, and I'm running out of time.
"This could be my last chance."
Adria Arjona, who plays Morbius' fiance Martine Bancroft, then asks him: "At what cost?"
Then there's the brief appearance from Michael Keaton's villain Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming, a character many fans were excited to see:
One person tweeted: "When i saw the vulture i was like wtffffffffffffffff the chills."
Another said: "OMG! This looks lit! Can't wait to see this movie!"
A third wrote: "This already looks better than Venom."
Speaking to IGN, Leto said of his character: "Inside of Morbius, there's a person who has a moral code. There's a good person. Ultimately it's that common struggle between good and evil. And, I guess, we'll see what ultimately prevails.
"That's what I like a lot about this movie. We're not walking such a clear path. There's not a clear line between what's right and what's wrong. There's some gray area there.
"And Morbius is an imperfect person. He's not your grandfather's superhero. He's a deeply complex character and imperfect. And I really loved that aspect that here we're taking someone who is like all of us, has a fair amount of challenges and issues."
Morbius is set to be released in the US and UK on 31 July 2020, and on 30 July in Australia.
