Gazza Offers To Pay For Ant McPartlin's Time In Rehab

Gazza Offers To Pay For Ant McPartlin's Time In Rehab

Whether it's showing up with a cooked chicken and a fishing rod, or offering to fill in as a presenter on a prime-time TV show, Gazza is always ready to step up to the plate and give a helping hand in times of need.

Now, in fellow Geordie Ant McPartlin's hour of need, the former England star has shown his support by offering to pay for his time in rehab - and has reportedly been ringing round friends trying to crowdfund further support.

In 2013, Gascoigne sought help for his own troubles with addiction at the £6,000-a-week Meadows rehab centre in Arizona, which he claimed saved his life and believes it could do the same for McPartlin following his drink-driving charge.

A source close to Gazza told the Daily Star: "Paul claims this is the place that saved his life. He truly believes that had he not attended here, he would have died.

"They are the best in the US and pretty much the world so if anyone can help Ant it will be here."

Gazza's own time at the facility was funded by the likes of Chris Evans, Piers Morgan and Gary Lineker, and now he is attempting to pay the favour back by crowdfunding for McPartlin.

The source added: "Paul has had a few slips but everyone who has dealt with addiction knows it isn't an easy fix.

"Nothing is ever going to fully fix Paul, he will always be an alcoholic and he's coming to terms with that.

"The important thing with Gazza's recovery is that the experts at The Meadows taught him the tools he needed to use every time he is feeling weak or in need of a drink.

"He draws on this experience when he needs and he thinks that Ant could really benefit from it."

Gazza's offer to help pay for the presenter's rehab costs is a nice enough gesture but it's not the only time he's offered to lend his services to the cause.

Previously, on Twitter, the Toon legend said that he would be prepared to step in and replace Ant on Saturday Night Takeaway, even sharing a mocked-up photo of himself and Dec.

"I'm here for you Dec if you need me while Ant gets better @antanddec @ITV @itvtakeaway," he posted, accompanied by the photo. The tweet has since been deleted.

However, despite Gazza's kind offer, it looks as though Dec will continue to be on hosting duties by himself.
