Australian media commentator Miranda Devine has seemingly left a Fox News host gobsmacked over her views on the coronavirus.

Yesterday (October 6), the New York Post journalist rose to prominence after writing a glowing review of Donald Trump's battle with Covid-19, which was then tweeted by the President.

But when she was invited on Fox News to discuss the way America was going to find its way out of the pandemic, her views weren't similarly praised.

She told host Dana Perino: "He's delivered a message of hope through experience. He sent the message that we can get back to work. That's what everybody wants.

"I think it's just incredibly selfish of older people or neurotic people who are timid and afraid and won't come out of their basements to confine children and young people to miss out on the most important parts of their lives in schooling and on the prime of youth."

Perino paused for a moment after these claims and double checked to see whether Devine really did mean the words 'selfish' and 'timid.

She double downed and blamed the 'people in power' for keeping the fear of the pandemic going six months after it started in the US.

"Insisting on keeping Americans just as frightened as they were six months ago of the coronavirus which has receded as a threat. I think they are selfish. And I am particularly pointing the finger, if you want to know, at Democrats and Joe Biden," she said.

Perino capped off the interview by saying Devine had an 'interesting point of view'.

The reaction on social media has been swift and severe, with many Americans shocked.

One person said: "Miranda Devine is somebody I'd never heard of until today. What a foul person she is, you can see how she prospered under the revolting Rupert Murdoch."

Another added: "It is funny seeing even a Fox News mannequin looking at Miranda Devine with a 'really? you're saying this part out loud?' expression. When a station devoted to bats*** crazy wonders if you're not a little, um, out there."

A third wrote: "In which Miranda Devine talks garbage so toxic and shambolic, not even a Fox anchor can get her head around it."
