The father of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was fatally shot while working on the Rust movie set, has spoken out about her death - saying he doesn't believe the blame lies with actor Alec Baldwin.

Anatoly Androsovych said his family were in disbelief over his daughter's tragic death, after Hutchins, 42, was shot by a prop gun fired by Baldwin.

Santa Fe Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the set at around 2.00pm local time following a 911 call that reported a shooting.

Hutchins was pronounced dead after being airlifted from the site and taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital.

Ukrainian Androsovych said he believes the 'responsibility' for the tragic incident falls to the props department.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: "We still can't believe Halyna is dead and her mother is going out of her mind with grief.

"But I don't hold Alec Baldwin responsible - it is the responsibility of the props people who handle the guns."

Androsovych said Baldwin had been in touch with Hutchins' husband Matthew.

He also added that he is now trying to get his wife Olga and daughter Svetlana over to the US to be with Hutchins' grieving immediate family - including her nine-year-old son Andros.

Androsovych said: "The little boy has been very badly affected - he is lost without his mother.

"Matt will decide if legal action is going to be taken."

The incident occurred on the set of the Western movie in New Mexico in what appears to have been a misfire.

The shot that was fired on the set of the Western movie in New Mexico also injured director Joel Souza, who was later released from hospital.

It is believed Baldwin was unaware he had been handed a loaded gun, with court records showing the assistant director said 'cold gun' just before the shooting took place, not knowing the prop gun was loaded with live rounds, according to a search warrant filed in a Santa Fe court.

Baldwin has since said he is 'fully cooperating' with police, having said in a statement on social media: "There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.

"I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family.

"My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna."
