Brothel owner shares ‘eight second rule’ all clients need to be aware of

As the owner of one of Europe's biggest brothels for over a decade, it's fair to say that Catherine De Noire is a bit of an expert when it comes to sex clubs.

The 32-year-old psychology student speaks openly about her work in the adult industry, including the type of clients who frequent her establishments, the craziest requests she's heard clients ask for, and how much money the staff at her club make.

De Noire is also keen to shatter the myths around the world of sex work, explaining that her club is completely legal and functions very similarly to most other jobs, including having an IT and HR department on hand.

Which I bet you wouldn't expect to find at a sex club.

She also revealed there are various safety measures in place to protect the women, including a non-negotiable 'eight-second rule'.

Catherine De Noire's 'eight-second rule' explained

During a recent interview on the Tea At Four YouTube channel, De Noire explained that the private rooms in her club are kitted out with panic buttons, designed to protect the workers should they feel threatened or intimidated by a client.

"Every room has a panic button, and that means that when the girl doesn't feel good or something is happening in the room, she can press it and the security will come," she said.

The protocol is designed to keep workers protected from sexual violence, with De Noire going on to explain that security has eight seconds to get into a room once a panic button is pressed.

This number isn't picked out of thin air, either, as most studies suggest that it takes a person less than 10 seconds to lose consciousness if they are being choked.

"Security needs to be there within 8 seconds, because we were once told that when you start to suffocate somebody, it takes 8 seconds for him or her to go unconscious," she said.

Despite becoming popularised in mainstream sex over the years, sexual choking (or erotic asphyxiation) can cause irreversible damage, with research conducted by Bangor University revealing that non-fatal strangulation is the second most common cause of stroke in women under 40.

"This is the reason why our security is trained. We train them every three months, again and again, so they know the fastest route to the room," De Noire added.

"They know, like how to open it, they know which pair of them will go there, so we train them regularly, but because we are that big, this almost never happens."

The system is only used for safety reasons either, as De Noire added that customers will sometimes fall asleep and refuse to leave the rooms.

"The service is over, and he's sitting there naked and he's like, 'I just want to continue, I don't want to leave', and then she's like, 'but you need to pay', and he's like, 'I don't want to pay'," she explained.

"These are the most typical reasons [that the button is used]."
