The Mummy actor Brendan Fraser looked dramatically different as he made a rare public appearance last week.

The actor, who's kept himself out of the public eye in recent years, attended the premier of his latest movie No Sudden Moves in New York on Friday.

Fraser, 52, plays Jones in the movie, which also stars David Harbour and Jon Hamm.

Earlier this year it was announced that Fraser is set to star in The Whale, in which he'll play a 600lb recluse named Charlie.

The film centres on English teacher Charlie who attempts to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter who he became estranged from after coming out.

When Charlie's partner dies he turns to compulsive eating to cope with the grief.

The movie is based on a play of the same name and will be directed by Darren Aronofsky with Samuel D Hunter, who wrote the original play, on board to adapt it for the screen.

Fraser has previously spoken out about the physical toll his career has had on him.

In an 2018 GQ interview, the star said: "By the time I did the third Mummy picture in China, I was put together with tape and ice.

"I was building an exoskeleton for myself daily."

Fraser revealed he spent 'seven years in and out of hospital' due to the number of injuries he sustained while doing his own stunts.

He went on to list the various treatments and procedures he had to undergo to try and fix the multitude of problem he had picked up - including an operation to remove a portion of vertebra in his lower back to make room within his spinal canal.

And if that doesn't sound traumatic enough, the actor went on to tell GQ that the procedure - called a lumbar laminectomy - didn't take and he had to go through it all over again the following year.

He has also had surgery to help fix his damaged vocal cords and a partial knee replacement.

The star also revealed several events in his personal life meant he was out of the public eye, adding: "I changed houses, I went through a divorce. Some kids were born. I mean, they were born, but they're growing

"I was going through things that mould and shape you in ways that you're not ready for until you go through them."
