Sharknado Finale Sees A Great White Fight A T-Rex In The Ultimate Battle

Sharknado Finale Sees A Great White Fight A T-Rex In The Ultimate Battle

When you start by jumping the shark, anything is possible: so The Last 'Sharknado' is set to feature a T-Rex

The Meg, currently riding high in the cinema box office lists, might feature Jason Statham thumping a shark, but realistically, there is only one film franchise that matters in the sharksploitation world.

That's Jaws, of course, but if there were a second it would be the long-running, well-loved, much-derided Sharknado series, which is set to march into its 900th and final instalment next year.

Yes, we know that there haven't actually been 900 Sharknado movies (though at times it may feel like it) - it's actually the sixth official movie, with three spinoffs, and the makers SyFy have acknowledged that pretty much everyone has lost count with the title: "The Last Sharknado: It's About Time."

So THAT's what a Sharknado looks like.

Not content with being a more than credible joke in and of itself, the title of 'TLS:IAT', as I hope fans call it is also a pretty good joke about the plot as well, which is meant to feature time travel, Nazis, dinosaurs, knights and Noah's ark. No, really.

I suppose when you can't jump the shark, the shark jumps you.

The Last Sharknado: It's About Time will air tonight in the United States and features honest to god T-Rexs - T-Rexs - taking on sharks, because of course it does.

SyFy describe it thus: "Our hero Fin (Ian Ziering) has battled sharks all over the globe, but in this last instalment he will tackle the final shark-tier - time travel.

"In the ending moments of Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, Fin was seen wandering alone on Earth after it was destroyed.

"Now he must travel back in time to stop the Sharknado that started it all. Will Fin and the gang be able to set everything right and save the world once and for all?"

Let's unpack this. Firstly, I don't think 'the final shark-tier' works as a pun: it sounds more like a shark-themed wedding cake than a Star Trek reference.

Secondly, "In the ending moments of Sharknado 5: Global Swarming," implies that there is some sort of linear plot through line that unites all the Sharknado movies that fans are just waiting to see tied up.

This ain't Twin Peaks, SyFy, nobody cares who killed Laura Palmer. They care that she was eaten by flying bloody sharks.

Thirdly and, thankfully, finally, I think that Fin will conquer the sharks. I hope he does, because Ian Ziering needs a break and that Fin/Sharknado pun was never, ever funny.
