Tom Hanks Lashes Out At Americans Who Are Refusing To Wear A Face Mask

"I just think shame on you. Don’t be a p***k. Get on with it, do your part."

America continues to lead the globe with the number of coronavirus cases, having amassed around a quarter of the world's infections.

People have been told to wear face masks to prevent the spread of the pandemic, however some are resisting for a whole host of reasons.

Opponents of the health advice complain that a mask is uncomfortable, that it reduces the amount of oxygen you get into your system (not true), that the coronavirus is a hoax or overstated (definitely not true) and a face covering isn't necessary (so not true).

But take it from someone who actually had the coronavirus: Americans need to wear a mask.

Tom Hanks was diagnosed with the virus while he was in Australia shooting a movie and he was plunged into a two week isolation with his wife Rita Wilson.

He's lashed out at the people who are still refusing to don a mask, even as the case numbers continue to pile up.

According to People, the Hollywood star told an audience at a press conference for his new project: "There's really only three things we can do in order to get to tomorrow: wear a mask, social distance, wash our hands.

"Those things are so simple, so easy, if anybody cannot find it in themselves to practice those three very basic things - I just think shame on you.

"Don't be a p***k. Get on with it, do your part. It's very basic. If you're driving a car, you don't go too fast, you use your turn signal and you avoid hitting pedestrians. My Lord, it's common sense."

Mr Hanks said he hopes no one else goes through the painful process of battling the virus and keeping themselves safe from others.

The actor continued: "We had about 10 days of very uncomfortable symptoms. Not life-threatening, we're happy to say. We were isolated in order to keep an eye on ourselves because if our temperatures had spiked, if our lungs had filled, if any number of things had gone wrong with this, we would have needed expert medical care.

"We didn't. I guess we were model recoverers from COVID-19, but we were also isolated so that we would not give it to anybody else that we came in contact with, and since then have been doing the same isolating, social distancing that is being asked of the world so, we are fine."

If you're not going to listen to authorities or health experts, please listen to T. Hanks.
