Cadbury has solved one of the most pressing issues of recent times - are Flakes and Twirls the same?

A huge national debate broke out when a social media user suggested that Twirls are simply Flakes covered in chocolate. A fair assumption, you'd think.

But, as it turns out, Cadbury has put the whole thing to bed, confirming the products are in fact different.

A statement sent to LADbible reads: "Both Cadbury Twirl and Cadbury Flake bars are made with the Cadbury chocolate that we all know and love.

"We can confirm they are not one and the same, how each of them are made is a secret though, known only to our brilliant chocolate makers."

Well, there you have it.

Dan Timlin was the one who initially sparked the social media storm when he shared a TikTok video in which he claimed the two iconic Cadbury's chocolate bars were essentially the same.

In the first of two videos, Dan uses the packaging to explain his theory.

He says: "Twirls are chocolate-covered Flakes. They're the same thing man."

After one user said he was wrong, claiming Flakes can't be melted while Twirls can't, Dan decided he would share another video, testing the theory out.

Placing both the chocolate bars, wrapped in tinfoil, into the oven, he says: "I'm gonna put these both in the oven for 10 minutes. Because Flake chocolate won't melt, the Twirl won't either."

He then pulls them both out, and unveiling the pair he reveals they have both burned while in the oven.

Some people agreed with Dan, having said they always had an inkling the chocolate bars were almost identical.

One person said: "I always thought that."

A second wrote: "I am with you 100 percent. I thought of the exact same thing years ago.

"I do enjoy a Twirl because it's easier to eat with less mess."

While another joked: "A Twirl is a Flake that's got its life together."

Some, however, insisted Twirls and Flakes are completely different bars.

One TikTok user wrote: "No, they taste completely different, you can't say that."

Another agreed, saying: "Definitely different."
