Robert Irwin has shared a side-by-side clip showing just how similar he is to his Crocodile Hunter dad Steve - with father and son reacting almost identically to being bitten by a snake.

Robert is an absolute ringer for his late dad, but the similarities are more than just physical - with the 16-year-old following in his animal-loving dad's footsteps at the Australia Zoo and starring in his own animal documentary series.

And, while filming for Animal Planet series Crikey! It's the Irwins, Robert even managed to get a near identical bite from a snake.

In a clip posted on his Instagram, Robert can be seen holding a carpet python, he asks the snake: "Are you going to be grumpy or are you going to be nice?" as he gently takes it out of its safety bag.

He adds: "It's alright, you're going to go back home. There you go buddy. There's a good snake.

"Aren't they just the coolest? I love carpet pythons. That is a good size carpet python. That's so cool. I've got to tell you, when I first found this guy..."

At this point, the snake whips up and snaps at his face, while Robert quickly pulls away.

The clip then cuts to a very similar incident involving Steve holding a snake while filming The Crocodile Hunter.

As Steve talks to the camera, the snake lunges towards his face. In classic Crocodile Hunter style, Steve casually called it a 'son of a gun' and carried on talking like it was no big deal.

Sharing the clips on his Instagram, Robert wrote: "Wait for it. After a snake rescue with this cheeky carpet python while filming for Crikey! It's the Irwins it brought back fun memories of a very similar situation that happened decades before in one of the original Crocodile Hunter documentaries! Maybe it was her way of saying 'thanks' for being rescued!"

Fans were blown away by the coincidence, with one posting: "Oh my gosh! You and your dad's ability to stay calm amazes me. You really have his gift."

Another added: "Like father, like son. I can't believe it."

A third said: "You're so like your father. He'd be so proud of you."
