At the ripe old age of 72, the Star Wars set designer that was behind the design of the lightsaber and R2D2, Roger Christian, has confessed there was an error in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

Almost 40 years after the part IV premiered in theatres, Christian has revealed that the mistake was in Han Solo's iconic ship, the Millennium Falcon. He alleges that there is a patch of rough material that was not supposed to be there.

Apparently, it was copied from an unfinished model but somehow went on to become the final design.

Writing in Cinema Alchemist, Christian explained: "The builders had used the aircraft model kits parts and one part was a mistake, but it had become part of the exterior forever."

Here are two of the other makers involved talking about the concept of the world's most famous fictional spaceship.
