'The Simpsons' Writer Explains Why They Predicted Trump For President

How do they keep doing this?

Sixteen years ago, when we still had joy in our hearts, The Simpsons accurately predicted that the US would have Donald Trump for president.

In the episode 'Bart to the Future', Lisa is sat in the Oval Office when she says: "We've inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump." You have to admit, that is pretty weird.

Writer Dan Greaney told the Hollywood Reporter that they included the 'joke' as a warning to America. Obviously, not one they decided to listen to.

He said: "The important thing is that Lisa comes into the presidency when America is on the ropes, and that is the condition left by the Trump presidency.

"What we needed was for Lisa to have problems that were beyond her fixing, that everything went as bad as it possibly could, and that's why we had Trump be president before her.

"The Simpsons has always kind of embraced the over-the-top side of American culture and Trump is just the fulfilment of that."

James L. Brooks, who also writes for The Simpsons, summed up the general feeling with this tweet:

Alternatively, The Simpsons is tied into the Illuminati and that's how the writers keep getting it spot on.
