The singer who attracted headlines around the world for urinating on a fan's face during a performance has released a statement.

Sophia Urista from the band Brass Against pulled an unbelievable stunt while covering 'Wake Up' by Rage Against the Machine.

After deciding to invite a fan on stage, Urista asked him to lie down and then she began to pull her pants down and weed on his face, all while continuing to sing.

According to Independent, Urista told the crowd that she needed to urinate.

"Get my man with the can on his head ready, 'cause we're going to bring him onstage and I'ma p*** in this motherf***er's mouth," she said.

"I gotta pee," she added. "And I can't make it to the bathroom. So we might as well make a show out of it."

So, she urinated directly on his face. In front of everyone. Understandably, people were horrified.

Sophia has now released a statement addressing the bizarre moment and admits that she might have taken things a little too far in the name of art.

"I want to speak to my performance at Rockville metal festival in Daytona," she said in a post on Instagram.

"I have always pushed the limits in music and on stage. That night, I pushed the limits too far.

"I love my family, the band, and the fans more than anything and I know that some were hurt or offended by what I did. I apologize to them and want them to know that I didn't mean to hurt them.

"I am not a shock artist. I always want to put the music first. I'm grateful for all of your continued love and support."

The band issued a message straight after the show knowing full well it would attract some media attention.

Brass Against said 'Sophia got carried away' and that what happened on the stage at Daytona is 'not something you'll see again at our shows'.

Sophia Urista was born in Michigan back in 1985 and News Corp reports she comes from a 'conservative' family.

The singer made it big when she appeared on the American version of The Voice in 2016 and was chosen by judge Miley Cyrus to be on her team.
