A mother has revealed she likes to start her day by taking a shower alongside her teen daughter.

Hey, it's probably a little bit unusual to most of us, but they seem to think that it's completely normal and OK.

So long as they're happy.

As part of a series of TLC's sMothered which aired last year, mother Mary (who was 55 when the episode was filmed) and her teenage daughter Brittani (then 19), who live together in Jensen Beach, Florida, opened up about their extremely close - and somewhat unique - relationship.

In a clip from the bizarre episode - which you can watch above - the two of them can be seen in the shower together, with Mary stood behind her daughter.

Speaking about their quirky habit, Mary admits they've been doing it for years, saying: "I have been taking showers and helping Brittani since she was five."

As she steps into the shower, Mary can be heard telling her daughter to 'move it'.

As the water hits her, she says: "Ah, that feels so good."

The mum then starts to wash the teenager's hair, telling her: "You need to tan or something, honey. You're so white."

And Mary couldn't think of a better way to wash, adding: "The best way to start our day is in the shower."

But while others might look at their relationship and find something weird about a mum showering with her adult daughter, Mary says she doesn't agree.

She says: "I love her, and I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't believe I set out to have a relationship this close to Brittani, it's something that was supposed to be."

And Brittani seems to feel the same, adding: "When my mom does simple things like washing my hair or my body, it makes me feel comforted.

"Plus, I'm only 19, I haven't moved away. If that was the case, she would probably die from separation anxiety."

Speaking to the New York Post about their close bond, Mary revealed she started showering with Brittani to help her deal with the panic attacks her daughter suffered - which they believe were brought on by the hot water.

She said: "That's kind of how I started getting in the shower with her, just to comfort her because she would freak out.

"That grew into an every-other-day thing. When she was smaller, it was every day."

However, after years of them bathing with each other, Mary's boyfriend Frank says he thinks it's time for a change, specifically Brittani moving out of the house.

But according to Mary, that won't be happening any time soon.

She tells the show: "It has caused some issues in my relationship, but he's got to accept it. That's how it is. He knows I love him, but I love my daughter more - she's my life."
