McDonald's Confirms Monopoly Is Returning On 25 March

I'm lovin' it

McDonald's has confirmed that Monopoly is returning on 25 March.

The exciting news was announced on the fast-food giant's Twitter account. It read: "You know what's coming. And this year it's going to be even more special. Watch this space."

In case you have no idea what McDonald's Monopoly is, an explanation: basically, qualifying purchases come with a peel-back sticker attached to the packaging which have 'instant wins' on them or codes you can use online to claim bigger prizes.

Others are 'collect to win' stickers, and you'll need two or three of these to bag a prize.

Now, while the folks over at McDonald's have yet to confirm what lies in store for us all this year, in the past they have given away anything and everything, from a free meal or a £50 voucher to a Mini Cooper and £100,000 cash.

However, in a break from tradition last year, McDonald's announced that where in the past customers had been rewarded for 'going large', it had decided to remove that incentive, instead increasing the number of stickers on offer for a medium Extra Value Meal to make sure all customers received the same opportunity to win regardless of the size of their order.

And for the first time ever, customers received Monopoly stickers on carrot bags and side salads as well as Big Flavour Wraps, including the Spicy Veggie One.

Last year's board.

In the past some fans have gone to extraordinary lengths to get their hands on the top prizes.

Last year, one teenager decided to boost her odds of winning the £100,000 top prize by buying £121 worth of grub from the fast food chain - and it didn't work.

Saffron Barker, from Brighton, UK, filmed herself as she 'ripped her bank account', ordering 10 lots of french fries, dozens of doughnuts and shitloads of burgers, among other things. She basically ticked off the menu on the self service touchscreen.

In the video, she said: "We've written down our list, this is literally going to rip my bank account but you never know it might be worth it from the prizes that we win.

"None of this food is going to go to waste. My family are friends are buzzing off the walls because I'm going to bring them McDonald's just so I can peel off the stickers."

But after peeling off the stickers once she got her hefty order home, Saffron realised the most she had won was a Kindle book and a few free meals... which wasn't quite what she was after.

Maybe you lot will have more luck than poor Saffron.
