If Your iPhone Is Running Out Of Data This Could Be The Answer

Sneaky Apple.

If you've got an iPhone and you're finding that your data is running out a lot quicker than it used to then you might want to check if Wi-Fi Assist is on.

Wi-Fi Assist was introduced with iOS 9 (and it's on iOS10) and it aims to make your internet more consistent and stable by using your data when the Wi-Fi signal is low.

So, for example, when I'm in my kitchen at home the Wi-Fi signal is really low. With Wi-Fi assist, even though I'm connected to the Wi-Fi, it will use my data plan to give it a boost.

To disable head to Settings>Mobile Data. Scroll down to the bottom and there it is.

On its site Apple states that this will only be a small percentage of data (and in my case that was definitely true: 49.1MB) but other people have taken to social media to say they have consistently been going over their data plan since updating.

Macworld.com reckons that very few of us would need to use Wi-Fi Assist, and that unless you've got an unlimited data plan you might as well turn it off.
